Zack began his college education at the University of New Mexico where he gained a BS in biochemistry. It was here that he discovered his passion for teaching science while he worked with undergraduate STEM students in the university’s learning center. He followed this drive into graduate school in Colorado where he gained his Master’s degree in Biochemistry at Colorado State University. He has since focused his pursuits toward science education, and is now pursuing a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a focus on science pedagogy. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jenny Knight, Zack is studying how to promote self-regulated learning in the context of undergraduate biology courses. Co-mentored by Dr. Michael Stowell, Zack is also seeking to promote these approaches to learning in a novel science learning context where students pursue micro-credentialing in technical laboratory research skills. Outside of his primary research, Zack is excited to work with Ming Yang supporting graduate and post doctoral students as co-chair of professional development in the DBER-SiT team!
